Swiss National Museum / «Alpine panoramas»

For the huge panorama rotunda of the Swiss National Museum, we produced gigapixel images of a total of 15 high alpine peaks.

The Alpine panorama is undisputedly one of the most beautiful trademarks of Switzerland. In a special exhibition, the Swiss National Museum wanted to document the history of panorama photography with its pioneers such as Adolphe Braun, Emil Ganz and Emil Schulthess; as well as a digital, innovative 360° projection.

A panorama rotunda with a diameter of 12 metres was built for the project, in which our images of a total of 15 high alpine peaks were projected as razor-sharp, seamless panoramic views.

On the walk-in viewing platform, which was in the centre of this cylinder, visitors met a kind of binocular – a pioneer of today’s VR glasses. Visitors were able to jump from one mountain peak to the next and had extremely high image quality thanks to the high-resolution gigapixel images.

International visitors were thus able to experience another pioneering project at the exhibition. A pioneering project that documents the history of panoramic photography and is currently in line.
